Check or change Space Engineers Workshop mods

Space Engineers Workshop mods are saved with the world. On VialStack, check the world mod list before making changes, back up the save, and restart only when your players are ready.

Where mods are listed

The active mod list is stored in the world files, especially Sandbox_config.sbc and Sandbox.sbc inside your save folder. Each mod usually has a friendly name and a Steam Workshop ID.

Check the current list

  1. Open your Space Engineers server in the VialStack panel.
  2. Go to Files, then open your save folder under Instance/Saves.
  3. Open Sandbox_config.sbc and search for the mod name or Workshop ID.
  4. If the mod is not listed there, check Sandbox.sbc too.

Add or remove a mod safely

  1. Create a backup before editing the save.
  2. Confirm the exact Steam Workshop item and ID before editing. For example, the Workshop result named Self-Maintenance Unit V2 uses ID 3744115977.
  3. Make one mod change at a time.
  4. Save the file after adding or removing the full ModItem entry, including the friendly name and Workshop ID.
  5. Restart the server during a quiet time. A restart is required before Space Engineers reloads the mod list.

Verify after restart

Watch the console or latest log during startup. If the server fails to load, restore your backup or remove the last mod change and send the first mod-related error to VialStack support.

Ask support first if unsure

If the server is live or you are unsure which save is active, open a billing support ticket. We can check the current mod list without interrupting players, then wait for your approval before making changes that require a restart.
