Remove or change a Space Engineers server password

Use this when you want players to join without a password, or when you need to replace the current join password.

Where the password is set

The join password is stored in the Space Engineers dedicated server config. On most VialStack Space Engineers servers, check Instance/SpaceEngineers-Dedicated.cfg. Some installs may also have a config copy under config/.

Make the server public

  1. Open your server in the VialStack panel.
  2. Go to Files.
  3. Open the Space Engineers dedicated config file.
  4. Find <ServerPassword>.
  5. Remove the password text so the value is empty: <ServerPassword></ServerPassword>.
  6. Save the file.

Change the password

To keep the server private, replace only the text between <ServerPassword> and </ServerPassword>. Do not paste passwords into public Discord channels or guide screenshots.

Apply the change

A restart is normally required before Space Engineers picks up the password change. If players are online, wait until the server is clear or open a support ticket asking us to make the change when approved.
