Back up and restore Space Engineers saves

Back up before changing mods, world saves, passwords, major settings, or anything that requires a restart. It is much easier to roll back from a clean backup than to repair a damaged save.

When to back up

Create a backup before Workshop mod edits, save uploads, large config changes, or troubleshooting that might affect world files.

Create a backup

Open your server in the VialStack panel.
Go to Backups.
Create a new backup and give it a clear name.
Wait for the backup to finish before editing files.

Download important saves

For extra safety, download the current save folder or backup before a risky change. Keep the download somewhere safe until the server has been verified.

Restore after a bad change

If a mod or setting breaks startup, stop the server, restore the last good backup, then start the server and check the console/logs. If you are unsure which backup is safe, open a support ticket before overwriting the current files.
