Rust RCON says waiting or does not connect
Use this when your Rust server starts, but the panel or an RCON tool keeps showing RCON as waiting, connecting, or unavailable.
What RCON does
RCON is the remote console connection Rust uses for admin commands and some panel features. Rust needs a working RCON port, a password, and the server must be restarted after port or startup changes.
Quick checks you can do
- Open your VialStack panel, select the Rust server, then check Startup for the RCON password and RCON port.
- Do not share the RCON password in public chat. If you open a support ticket, VialStack staff can check the server safely.
- If you changed startup ports or RCON settings, restart the server during a quiet time so Rust reloads them.
- If the server is busy, wait to make changes. A restart will briefly kick connected players.
When VialStack support changes it
If support finds that RCON is pointed at the wrong port, we may need to update the server startup variables and restart the server. We will ask before restarting a live community unless there is an emergency.
Common Rust ports: Game port: the main server address shown in the panel RCON port: used by console/admin tools Query port: used by server lists
Still stuck?
Open a support ticket from the billing panel and include what you see, for example “RCON is stuck waiting.” We will check the server setup and let you know before doing anything that interrupts players.
