Reinstall a game server safely

Reinstall can rebuild the server software for the same VialStack server. It is useful when a fresh install did not finish, a jar or startup file is missing, or you want to rebuild the server files from the selected game/egg.

Important: reinstalling can stop the server and may replace generated server files. If players are online or you have a world/save you care about, make a backup first or ask VialStack support to check it with you.

When to reinstall

Before you reinstall

  1. Open the VialStack panel and select the correct server.
  2. If the server has a world, save, mods, or config files you want to keep, create a backup or download those files first.
  3. Make sure the server is clear to interrupt. Reinstalling is not a live/no-downtime action.
  4. If you are unsure, open a billing support ticket and tell us it is okay to interrupt/reinstall the selected server.

Reinstall steps

  1. In the panel, open your server.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Choose Reinstall Server.
  4. Wait for the installer to finish before pressing Start again.
  5. After it finishes, open the console and start the server.

If reinstall fails or the server still will not start

Open a support ticket from billing.vialstack.com. Include the server name and the last console error you see. VialStack support can check the selected product, installer, Java version, and startup files without asking you to repeat the game/server if the ticket already has that server attached.

Tip: do not repeatedly reinstall a server that contains files you care about. Ask support to inspect it first so we can avoid unnecessary data loss.
